What is Virtuals Protocol?

Every agent gets its own ERC-20 token, and the token is how ownership and revenue are shared. There are two main launch paths.

A Standard Launch puts an agent token on a bonding curve. The creator pays a 100 VIRTUAL fee to deploy the agent and seed its curve. To deter snipers and bots front-running a launch, the buy-side tax can start extremely high, at 99 percent, and decay down to a 1 percent baseline over a founder-chosen window (from zero up to roughly 98 minutes). The sell-side tax stays at 1 percent throughout, and taxes collected during the window are used to buy back agent tokens. After graduation, a flat trading tax of about 1 percent applies to both sides.

A Genesis Launch, introduced in April 2025, is a fairer distribution designed to fight the "snipers and cabals" problem. Instead of first-come-first-served buying, Genesis uses a points system. Users earn points through daily on-chain and off-chain participation in the ecosystem, and those points determine how much of a new token sale they can access. Genesis raises use tiered thresholds of 21,000, 42,000, and 100,000 VIRTUAL, and cap each wallet at 0.5 percent of the new token's supply. The core value loop is this: agent activity and trading generate fees in VIRTUAL; part of that revenue covers real costs like GPU and AI inference; and part is used to buy back and burn VIRTUAL, which slowly reduces supply. This is a deflationary design that ties VIRTUAL's value to how much genuine agent activity happens on the platform.

That last point is the whole debate. When agent activity is high, buybacks are meaningful. When it fades, so does the value accrual.
